The actress and filmmaker Greta Gerwig, who rose to fame following critically acclaimed performances in Greenberg (2010), Damsels in Distress (2011) and most recently, Frances Ha (2013) for which she also co-wrote, has recently been cast in the talked about “How I Met Your Dad” pilot, which is a spin-off of the beloved comedy, How I Met Your Mother, which is set to air it’s series finale next month.
The show will follow the same format as it’s Mother series, but this time, will be told from the female perspective of Sally (Gerwig), a “female Peter Pan” who narrates the story of how she met the father of her children as well as her social interactions with a group of friends who help her out after she leaves her husband of one year.
The show will not be a direct spin-off and such probably won’t feature the original cast in their same roles, although it is being made by the same production company so we could (fingers crossed) see the return of Neil Patrick Harris’ iconic Barney Stinson character.
Gerwig has also signed on to be a producer of the pilot and may even write a few episodes.
So what do you think of this news? Are you happy with the choice of Greta Gerwig? Or even more importantly, do you actually want to see “How I Met Your Dad?”
